Traveling to Mayotte? Land Connected.

Mayotte is a French island in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and Mozambique, wrapped in one of the world's great lagoons. Install your CGOO eSIM before you fly and you land connected at Dzaoudzi–Pamandzi airport, ready for lagoon boat trips, island drives and market mornings without hunting for a SIM shop.

Choose the Plan That Fits Your Trip

  • Fixed data or unlimited: pick from the plan grid above by trip length and data use — fixed-data plans for maps, messaging and light browsing, unlimited plans for heavy use and hotspotting.
  • Instant delivery: your QR code and installation link are emailed within minutes of checkout. Install before your flight; validity starts on the day you activate.
  • Good to know: your phone must support eSIM (dial *#06# and look for an EID), and your 15-digit IMEI is required at checkout so your eSIM can be provisioned.

Travel Highlights

  • The lagoon: a vast, double-barrier-reef lagoon around Grande-Terre, famous for dolphin and seasonal whale watching by boat.
  • N'Gouja beach: white sand and baobab trees on the south coast, a favourite for swimming and sunset walks.
  • Mamoudzou market: the capital's colourful daily market, the best place to taste local fruit, spices and street food.
  • Petite-Terre: the smaller island across the water, with the volcanic crater lake Dziani and quiet beaches.
  • Mount Choungui: the island's landmark peak, a short climb with wide views over the lagoon.

Getting Around

  • Ride-hailing: the local Mayotte Taxi'CO app books taxis from your phone; international apps do not operate here.
  • Shared taxis: taxi brousse shared taxis run the main routes on fixed, low fares paid in cash — but they are mainly a daytime service and virtually disappear after sunset, so arrange evening transfers in advance.
  • Airport to the city: from Dzaoudzi–Pamandzi airport, take a pre-booked transfer or a taxi to Mamoudzou, then the barge across to Grande-Terre.
  • Getting around the island: car rental is the easiest way to reach beaches and viewpoints outside Mamoudzou; driving standards are erratic, so drive cautiously.

Safety and Practical Tips

Mayotte is generally calm for visitors, but petty theft happens — keep valuables out of sight at beaches and markets, and avoid isolated areas after dark.

The island is largely Muslim and conservative in dress — cover shoulders and knees in villages and at religious sites, and carry cash in small euro notes, as drivers may not have change for large banknotes.

Entry and Visa

Entry rules depend on your passport. Mayotte is a French overseas department, so French entry rules apply — check whether your passport needs a visa before you travel, and carry a passport valid for your stay.

Weather and Climate

  • Warm year-round: temperatures sit around 26–30°C in most months, with warm seas for swimming all year.
  • Wet season (November to April): hotter and more humid, with heavy showers and a risk of cyclones.
  • Dry season (May to October): cooler, drier and sunnier — the most comfortable months for hiking and lagoon trips.
  • What to pack: light clothes, swimwear, reef shoes for coral beaches, and sun protection.

Money and Payments

  • Currency: the euro (EUR) — cash is king for shared taxis and small shops, so carry small notes.
  • Cards: accepted at larger hotels, supermarkets and car rental firms, but not by most taxis or market stalls.
  • ATMs: available in Mamoudzou and larger towns; stock up before heading to quieter parts of the island.
  • Wise: works wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted — it does not replace the cash you will need day to day.
