Traveling to Liechtenstein? Land Connected.

Liechtenstein is a tiny Alpine principality between Switzerland and Austria — castle views, Rhine trails and one very walkable capital. Install your CGOO eSIM before you arrive and you connect on crossing the border without hunting for a SIM shop, and your own number stays reachable for calls and texts back home.

Choose the Plan That Fits Your Trip

  • Fixed data or unlimited: pick from the plan grid above by trip length and data use — fixed-data plans for maps, messaging and light browsing, unlimited plans for heavy video, navigation and hotspot use.
  • Instant delivery: your QR code and installation link are emailed within minutes of checkout. Install before your flight; validity starts on the day you activate.
  • Good to know: your phone must support eSIM (dial *#06# and look for an EID), and your 15-digit IMEI is required at checkout so your eSIM can be provisioned.

Travel Highlights

  • Vaduz Castle: the prince's residence above the capital — seen from outside only, as it is not open to the public, but the walk up gives the classic view over Vaduz and the Rhine.
  • Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein: the modern art museum on Vaduz's main square, with international modern and contemporary collections.
  • Malbun: the mountain village and ski area in the east, with summer hiking trails and winter slopes.
  • Gutenberg Castle: the medieval castle above Balzers in the south, open to visitors with views over the Rhine valley.
  • Rhine trails: flat riverside paths along the Rhine, ideal for cycling between Vaduz, Schaan and the Swiss border.

Getting Around

  • Getting there: Liechtenstein has no airport — most visitors fly to Zurich, then take a train to Buchs or Sargans in Switzerland and a bus across the border to Vaduz. The whole journey from Zurich takes around two hours.
  • Country transport: the LIEmobil bus network covers the whole principality well, linking Vaduz, Schaan, Balzers and Malbun; the country is small enough that few bus journeys take more than half an hour.
  • Ride-hailing — not available: no major international ride-hailing app operates in Liechtenstein. Book local taxis by phone in advance, especially in the evening or from Malbun.
  • Cycling: bikes are a great way to see the Rhine valley — flat, signposted paths run the length of the country.

Safety and Practical Tips

Liechtenstein is very safe for visitors, with extremely low crime. Take normal care with valuables as anywhere, and keep your phone charged for maps on mountain trails.

Alpine weather changes fast: check the forecast before hiking, carry layers and water, and turn back if storms build. Winter roads to Malbun can be snowy — winter tyres or chains may be needed.

Entry and Visa

Visa rules depend on your passport. Liechtenstein is in the Schengen area: many passports enter visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period; other nationalities need a Schengen short-stay visa applied for before travel. Check the latest requirements for your passport before you book, and make sure your passport is valid for at least three months beyond your planned departure from the Schengen area.

Weather and Climate

  • Alpine and valley contrast: the Rhine valley is mild, while Malbun and the mountains are cooler with reliable winter snow. Broad monthly averages in Vaduz run around 0°C in January and 20°C in July.
  • Best months for hiking: late spring to early autumn, when high trails are clear of snow and daylight lasts longest.
  • What to pack: layers for altitude changes, a waterproof jacket, sturdy walking shoes, and sun protection — Alpine sun is strong even on cool days.
  • Winter: Malbun's ski season typically runs from December into spring, depending on snow — check conditions before booking a ski trip.

Money and Payments

  • Currency and cards: Swiss francs (CHF). Cards are widely accepted in Vaduz, hotels and restaurants; carry cash for mountain huts, small cafés and rural buses.
  • WISE and similar travel cards — yes, supported: the Wise card works in Liechtenstein wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted. Similar multi-currency cards, such as Revolut, work the same way on the Visa/Mastercard network. Check the card app for current ATM limits and fees before you travel, as these change.
  • Tipping: rounding up is common; 10% for good restaurant service is appreciated but not expected. Taxi drivers are usually rounded up.
  • Cash tips: use ATMs in Vaduz rather than airport exchange counters, which usually give worse rates, and always choose to pay in francs (local currency) if a terminal offers conversion.
