Traveling to Eswatini? Land Connected.

Eswatini packs mountains, wildlife reserves and craft markets into one of Africa's smallest countries — and it is an easy add-on to a South Africa trip. Install your CGOO eSIM before you fly and you connect at King Mswati III International Airport without hunting for a SIM shop, and your own number stays reachable for calls and texts back home.

Choose the Plan That Fits Your Trip

  • Fixed data or unlimited: pick from the plan grid above by trip length and data use — fixed-data plans for maps, messaging and light browsing, unlimited plans for heavy use and hotspotting.
  • Instant delivery: your QR code and installation link are emailed within minutes of checkout. Install before your flight; validity starts on the day you activate.
  • Coverage note: coverage is strongest in Mbabane, Manzini and the Ezulwini Valley and thins fast in the reserves and the southern lowveld — download offline maps before heading into a park.

Travel Highlights

  • Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary: the country's oldest reserve — walking, mountain biking and horse trails among zebra, wildebeest and hippos in the Ezulwini Valley.
  • Hlane Royal National Park: Eswatini's largest park, home to lion, elephant and white rhino, with guided game drives and bush camps.
  • Sibebe Rock: one of the world's largest granite domes, rising above the Pine Valley — a stiff hike with wide views over the Highveld.
  • Ezulwini Valley: craft markets, a candle factory and a glass-blowing studio between Mbabane and Manzini, plus the Mantenga Cultural Village.
  • Malolotja Nature Reserve: high grassland, waterfalls and the long Malolotja canopy walk in the north-west, near the South African border.

Getting Around

  • Airport: King Mswati III International Airport (SHO) serves the country — arrange a transfer or a rental car in advance, as public transport from the airport is limited.
  • Ride-hailing: the local MobiRide app books taxis with upfront fares in Mbabane, Manzini, Matsapha and the Ezulwini Valley; coverage thins fast outside those areas, and no international ride-hailing app operates widely.
  • Kombis: shared kombi vans run set routes between the main towns and are the cheapest way to travel — ask a local for the right rank and departure point.
  • Driving: roads between the main towns are good, but livestock on the road and thick Highveld fog in winter make night driving inadvisable; drive on the left.

Safety and Practical Tips

Eswatini is generally welcoming to visitors, but petty crime — bag-snatching and theft from parked cars — happens in Mbabane and Manzini, so keep valuables out of sight and avoid walking alone after dark. Road safety is the bigger risk: livestock, pedestrians and fog on rural roads, especially at night.

Carry cash for kombis, markets and park fees, and keep a photocopy of your passport separate from the original. Medical facilities are limited outside the main towns, so carry comprehensive travel insurance with evacuation cover.

Entry and Visa

Entry rules depend on your passport: many visitors can enter visa-free, while others need a visa arranged before travel. Check the current visa, passport-validity and onward-travel requirements for your nationality with the nearest Eswatini consulate before you travel.

Weather and Climate

  • Highveld (Mbabane): mild all year, with warm days and cool nights — broadly around 15–25°C, with summer rain from October to April.
  • Lowveld: hotter and drier, with daytime temperatures often above 30°C in summer.
  • Winter: May to September is dry and sunny, with cold mornings in the Highveld — the best window for walking and game viewing.
  • Rain: summer thunderstorms are short and sharp; dirt roads in reserves can get slippery after heavy rain.

Money and Payments

  • Currency: the lilangeni (SZL) is the official currency, pegged to the South African rand, which is also widely accepted.
  • Cash first: cash is essential for kombis, markets and park fees — carry small notes, as change is often unavailable.
  • Cards and ATMs: cards are accepted at larger hotels and lodges; ATMs are found in Mbabane and Manzini, so do not rely on them in rural areas. Wise works wherever Visa or Mastercard is accepted, with no SZL balance claimed here.
  • Tipping: tipping is modest — rounding up a taxi fare and a small tip for guides and drivers is appreciated.
